A Technical Update

Hi everyone. This being my first entry to this blog I wanted to give you an idea of what I am doing, and a little description of myself. We will be redeveloping the About us page, and we will be tweaking the site here and there until we are completely satisfied with it. So expect that it will always be changing. I will be running the technical side of Trekking Around. I do all things related to the Internet, and yes this is my design based off of the free spotlight design on WordPress themes. Any questions pertaining to the site and any sponsorship questions for the site should come directly to me. I will do my best to answer any and all questions.

As far as the boat search we have learned a lot since we started looking. We have come to the conclusion that we would like either a Trawler or a Cruiser. Both of which will give is the room that we desire. We do not need a lot. We have found that there is a significantA Cruiser difference between a 35 foot boat and a 40 foot boat. The extra 5 feet in most cases gives so much more room. We will probably end up with a 38-42 foot boat. That seems to be the class that gives us the room we need at the price that we want.

As far as the difference between a trawler and a cruiser,  the difference that I see is in the hull design. A TrawlerA trawler has a deeper more bulbous hull that pushes through the water. A cruiser rides more on the top of the water and cuts through waves. A trawler seems more stable in rough conditions than a cruiser but is much slower. Since we are not in a hurry speed is not a concern. Trawlers also are much more efficient for traveling the Great Loop. In reality a trawler will be the best class boat for us since it is the most economical under running conditions, and we are not concerned with speed.

To me the most important thing to the boat will be the engine. We are going to convert the engine from diesel to BioDiesel. This is very important to us as we would like to prove that it is economical and an easy thing to do to help the environment. So a diesel engine is very important to the boat. We will not even look at a boat if it is not diesel.

I do not consider myself an environmentalist, although I am concerned about the environment. What I am concerned about is our dependence on oil. There are a lot of better alternatives to burning oil and we hope to raise awareness of it. It is not that much of a big deal to change. We as a people, as leaders of the world, have to be the ones to go a head and do this. It has always been a big part of the US to be innovators of change. We seem very stuck in our ways right now. But we don’t have to be. Lets change and make the world a better place. “This service announcement brought to you by Coach Kip, and now back to your regularly scheduled program” (in my best radio voice).

I will be researching the benefits of Biofuel and more specifically BioDiesel. I will be putting my past experience as an engineer, and my education as a physicist and a mathematician to practice along the way. Having a scientific experiment that runs through the course of normal operating conditions for over a year and more than 5000 miles is very important to the development, use, and understanding of Biofuel. And it will be great fun along the way.

If you have any information about Biofuel or BioDiesel especially in marine applications let us know. Any and all information is useful and will be much appreciated.
